Fray Angelico Chavez collection, 1929-1996.

Summary: Collection consists primarily of the personal papers of Chavez. Includes typed manuscripts, letters sent and received, certificates, biographical materials, and newspaper clippings. Among the letters are correspondence with various publishers and Chavez's friend Frederick L. Grillo, as well as letters received from individuals such as Thornton Wilder, Paul Horgan, Erna Fergusson, Peter Hurd, and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. Collection also includes materials concerning the publication of Chavez's poem "The Virgin of Port Llegat" and Salvador Dali's painting "The Madonna of Port Llegat;" several Spanish documents concerning New Mexico; and a guest register book from the Montezuma Hotel in Santa Fe with signatures from 1899-1900, and 1921-1922.
